The Boy and The PianoJohn Lewis today revealed their new ‘The Boy And The Piano’ Christmas Advert for 2018. the 2 minute 20 seconds long advert features Elton John in a beautiful tribute to the British music Icon. Playing the ever familiar sound of Elton’s ‘Your Song’ throughout the advert. A song that never made it to number 1 in the UK. Could that be about to change?
Airing tonight for the first time at 9.15pm during ITV’s ‘Dark Heart’.
The advert is reported to have cost around £7 million, with around £5 million of that going to Elton himself. A proportion of his fee he has donated to his charity ‘The Elton John Charitable Trust’
The advert takes us through Moments in Elton’s life, it starts with a clip of Elton as a boy, receiving a Piano from his Grandmother. And shows us the impact that one gift can have on us for the rest of our lives. John Lewis will be selling pianos in its stores for the first time in 70 years.
They will be expecting households all over the country to flock to their stores, in the hope of creating their very own future Elton John’s.
Elton John spoke of the advert:

“It’s been a lovely opportunity for me to reflect on my life in music and the incredible journey I have been on, and how first playing my grandmother’s piano marks the moment when music came into my life.”

His husband, David Furnish added:
“I think Elton has enjoyed the process of making this tremendously.”
“I think, you know, emotionally he is thinking about the journey he’s been on as an artist, and that moment, you know, when music came into his life at a very young age when he was encouraged by his mother and his grandmother with his piano.”

John Lewis have made some of the most memorable and iconic Christmas adverts of our time, and show no signs of giving up their top spot. Despite struggling for the past year with profits, we predict a very good Christmas for everyone at John Lewis & Partners, because of their emotional advert ‘The Boy and The Piano’.
